Client: An established major internet based clothing and accessories store.
Project: The design of an order picking clothing trolley.

Details: The Client was a family business that had started trading in 1993, who had expanded greatly and wanted to improve the efficiency of their operations. The nature of their operations required operatives to receive, pick and collate orders for shipping. They held their products in a warehouse building that stretched over several floors and in order to fulfil orders it was necessary to transport products up and down storeys using lifts. The lifts of the building presented restrictions and also the width of the aisles between racking.
Our Designer visited the client in order to view the client's operations. The client already had very clear ideas of the form that the trolley should take. Our designer was able to witness first hand the challenges posed by the client's building.
Our Designer was able to interpret and combine what the Client wanted with what would be the best trolley solution in this case.
The trolley concept design incorporated 5 divided trays to hold small item separately, an extendable rail to hold hanging items, a long horizontal handle for flexible hand positioning, an integrated clipboard to hold paperwork and 4 x swivel castors for optimum manoeuvrability. The height of the trolley was kept to a minimum to enable the user vision over the top of the trolley for manoeuvring.
